Niihama Nickel Refinery of Sumitomo Metal Mining Co., Ltd. is the only nickel smelter plant in Japan. It produces 99.99% purity electrolytic nickel using the all-wet-type MCLE (Matte Chlorine Leach Electrowinning) method.
The plant also produces electrolytic cobalt and nickel sulfate using solvent extraction technology. We undertake the engineering work for all production equipment at this plant and we are contributing to higher levels of efficiency and labor saving.
The raw material used at this Niihama Nickel Refinery is nickel/cobalt MS (Mixed Sulfide) ore from Palawan Island in the Philippines, etc. The ore is made from low-grade oxide ore using the HPAL (High Pressure Acid Leach) method.
We also supplied new equipment to the new plant making MS (Mixed Sulfide) ore from low-grade ore using the HPAL method on Palawan Island in the Philippines.
